How do you get your grow children to respect you?
Now that my children are grown they think they can talk to me like I’m nothing,and do me any way they want to.If I tell them they want talk to me like that they just laugh at me.
focus on how it makes you feel and talk to them – individually… and it makes them look very unappreciative of you and the role you had in raising them to be who they now are as adults… … tell them it hurts your feelings when they are being disrespectful and be specific (eg ignoring you, raising their voices, calling you a name or teasing you etc.. whatever it is that bothers you)… and tell them when you disrespect me, I have to walk away because I do respect myself and I will not let you treat me in a way that hurts me and tell them you love them but that is the way it needs to be…
you can also remind them you did the best you could raising them and though not perfect, you are their mother and you have the right by title alone for respect…and that you will not be around forever – but while you are, you will show them the same respect you are asking for — and the best way they can thank you and show their love to you is by respecting you – even if they disagree with you..
