What is the first step in becoming a children’s book writer?
I am interested in illustrating and writing children’s books. Anyone with some experience in this field, and who could point me in the right direction will get my sincere thanks and 10 points.
Take some drawing classes. Many community colleges offer workshops on a variety of subjects, including drawing. Take a look at some favorite children’s stories to get an idea of what children are interested in. Try not to write down to kids-they’re smarter than you think and can spot a phony. If you have children or have friends who have children, read your story out loud to them to see what they think. Don’t worry about looking like a dork, “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Hobbit” were originally read to children the respective authors knew. Good luck!
